WARNING! SPOILER ALERT FOR THE MOVIE SHERLOCK HOLMES. READ ON AT YOUR OWN RISK.

I was really excited to see the movie “Sherlock Holmes.”  I knew it that it wasn’t going to take any of the stories, but rather have a fanfiction movie, if you will.  Maybe it’s the Otaku Gal in me, but I could draw a lot of parallels with it and the anime “Full Metal Alchemist.”  Even though “Sherlock Holmes” could just be the realistic version of “Full Metal Alchemist,” I couldn’t help but notice the similiarities…*shrugs*.  Lord Blackwood fills the position of the Fuhrer: he comes back from the dead (Fuhrer is a Homunculus), performs black magic (alchemy), and infiltrates Parliament (military).  In the scene where Sherlock Holmes discovers that Lord Blackwood is targeting specific areas in the city so that a pentagram is drawn over the city and he could perform his black magic, it’s similiar to Edward Elric discovering that the pentagram-like alchemy symbol is being drawn over the entire city to destroy it.

All in all, I thought “Sherlock Holmes” was an excellent movie.  I highly recommend it, even if you haven’t read any of the books.  The acting was great, and the scenic design didn’t disappoint.  With that being said, happy holidays!
