“Kuroshitsuji II” Review

17 Mar

Series: “Kuroshitsuji II” or “Black Butler, Second Season”
Genre: Action, Horror-esque, and a bit of mystery & comedy of course
Episodes: 12
Synopsis: This is obviously the second season of Kuroshitsuji, so all your favorite characters are still here, and the 19th century England setting remains the same.  Alois Trancy and Claude Faustus, two new key characters introduced, look to create chaos in Sebastian’s and Ciel’s lives.
Opinion: 4 out of 5 star

First off, I’m gonna have spoilers.  There is no way to talk about this show without it.  Moving on… if “Kuroshitsuji” had dark velvety kind of feel to it, then “Kuroshitsuji II” had a dark velvety kind of feel to it splattered with blood and and intensely dark drama.  This show is not for the faint of heart.  There is eye-gouging, gut-wrenching violence from the newest star of the season, making him my absolute favorite.  His arrogance and immature behavior will eventually grate on your nerves, though, but thankfully the other new character fits into the series to a T.  Where Alois rips apart the structure of what used to be “Kuroshitsuji,” Claude slips into it quietly but gives the same intensity of change to the original series.  I’m telling you now that if you have not seen the first season, you WILL NOT enjoy the second season (and you should totally watch the first season!  Look at my review for the first season in my earlier posting).  There have been many “Kuroshitsuji” fans who hated the second season just because of how jarring it is compared to the first.  The second season has a lot more mind tricks but noticeably less of the light humor “Kuroshitsuji” is known to have.   I liked the changes because if the second season kept the same rhythm as the first, I don’t believe that it would have been as popular as it became.  So please, “Kuroshitsuji” fans, I implore you to at least give it two episodes of chance.  The first episode is a little bit misleading (like I said, mind games), but I loved the way they approached it.  So that’s my review for “Kuroshitsuji II;” I hope it helps you!
